Oranges & Lemons is an economic worker-placement game about merchants in early-eighteenth-century London. Players begin with two workers, limited storage, and a handcart, then build the commercial infrastructure needed to buy, move, and sell goods across the city. Better transport—from horse carts to ships—opens more profitable opportunities, while warehouses increase capacity and contracts reward timely delivery. Loans can finance expansion but create obligations that cannot be ignored. As the game develops, merchants may enter export markets, political circles, overseas expeditions, and an early stock market, each offering a different route to points and influence. Hidden objectives and end-game bonuses keep competitors’ priorities uncertain until the final accounts are settled.
