Close Action: The Age of Fighting Sail Vol. 1 is Mark A. Campbell’s detailed tactical simulation of naval combat from the age of sail. Twenty-five historical scenarios range from small ship-to-ship actions to fleet engagements in which many players can each command a vessel or division. Movement is plotted against wind and heading, orders pass through an action queue, and gunnery, damage, critical failures, morale, and formation discipline decide whether a fleet can keep fighting. The system rewards advance planning and coordinated command rather than quick improvisation. ABG could not verify a publicly available English digital rulebook or a matching instructional tutorial for this 1997 edition; both resources are currently unavailable rather than replaced with unrelated material.
