Fields of Fire: Deluxe Edition is the definitive presentation of Ben Hull’s card-driven solitaire wargame. You command a rifle company rather than individual soldiers, arranging platoons, headquarters, weapons teams, forward observers, and supporting assets across a terrain map assembled from cards. Headquarters transmit limited commands through the chain of command, while terrain, visibility, enemy activity, ammunition, casualties, and communications continually complicate the plan. The game contains campaigns spanning Normandy, Korea, and Vietnam, each with linked missions whose outcomes shape the company that continues into the next battle. Its decks serve as map, event system, enemy intelligence, and combat engine, creating uncertainty without an opponent player. The Deluxe Edition reorganizes the rules, refines presentation, and combines the tactical detail and long-form company narrative into the most approachable version of this demanding design.
