EGO is Reiner Knizia’s tense science-fiction auction game, rebuilt from the core of Beowulf: The Legend. Players lead ambitious factions through a sequence of galactic events, committing influence cards to gain prestige, special advantages, and control of turn order. Some contests reward the strongest bid, while others punish hesitation or force players to decide how long to remain in an escalating struggle. Because every card spent now is unavailable later, the real contest is not simply winning each auction but choosing which confrontations matter. Passing can preserve strength, expose rivals, or position a faction for a more valuable crisis. Sealed bids add sharp moments of uncertainty, while endgame bonuses reward coherent political priorities rather than indiscriminate victories. EGO keeps decisions moving quickly but gives every reveal consequences that echo across the full session.
