Stephens is an economic strategy game set in eighteenth-century Portugal, where ambitious industrialists rebuild the nation’s glassmaking industry after the great Lisbon earthquake. Players place workers in shared factories to gather sand, timber, and other inputs, invest in production improvements, and complete increasingly valuable contracts. Every investment can improve an action space that rivals may later use, creating a lively shared engine instead of isolated player boards. Income and demand shift as the market develops, so the right contract today may be less valuable than a carefully prepared opportunity next round. Multiple scoring routes reward specialization, efficient logistics, and well-timed expansion. A dedicated solo mode preserves the investment puzzle, while multiplayer sessions turn every upgraded workshop into both an advantage and an invitation for competitors.
