Rome: Fate of an Empire is a dense solo civilization game built from cards, tracks, and a compact empire grid. A chosen leader and a set of edicts define the strategic problem; completing every requirement before the final round is the only path to victory. Each turn cycles through active projects, one major action, and cleanup. Developments create an increasingly specialized tableau, attributes improve the action deck, income fuels expansion, and military strength opens adjacent territories and enemy rewards. Progress is rarely free: overextension creates strife, borrowing threatens collapse, and unfinished projects continue to demand gold. Market order, card upgrades, spatial conquest, and multi-use resources make every round a web of dependencies. Standard and short modes offer different arcs, while difficulty settings tune the edicts rather than replacing the underlying engine-building puzzle.
