EXIT: The Game – The Lord of the Rings: Shadows over Middle-earth turns Tolkien’s journey into a cooperative, one-use escape-room adventure. Gandalf sends the group through a sequence of locations and puzzle documents where cards, strange objects, and the decoder disk combine into layered riddles. Players inspect every detail, fold or mark materials when instructed, test solutions with the disk, and use answer cards to discover whether the Fellowship can continue. The system rewards shared observation more than trivia knowledge: each puzzle asks the table to connect symbols, spatial clues, text, and physical transformations. Help cards provide escalating hints when the party stalls, while the optional EXIT app adds a timer, atmosphere, and tutorial support. This is a story-led challenge designed for one concentrated session, and components are intentionally altered during play, so the copy cannot be reset for another group.
