Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures is the original collectible skirmish game built from Wizards of the Coast’s prepainted figures and stat cards. Two players construct warbands to an agreed point total, choose a commander and faction-legal creatures, then deploy on a gridded terrain map. Turns alternate through movement and attacks, with a twenty-sided die resolving armor checks, saves, spells, and special abilities familiar from D&D. Positioning matters: walls, cover, line of sight, threatened squares, and flanking can turn a modest creature into a decisive piece. Command effects and morale rules give leaders influence beyond their own attacks, while randomized booster contents make collection building and warband experimentation part of the system. Victory comes from scenario objectives and eliminating enemy value, offering a focused competitive battle distinct from role-playing adventures even though it shares their monsters and vocabulary.
