Read the full game description

Barbarossa is Klaus Teuber’s Spiel des Jahres–winning party game of sculpture, deduction, and calibrated difficulty. Each player secretly chooses words and models rough clay objects that should be recognizable, but not obvious. Players move around a circular board, spending limited elf-stones or landing on action spaces to ask broad yes-or-no questions, request a letter, or make a private guess with a curse token. A correct solution rewards the guesser and places an arrow in the sculpture. The sculptor’s scoring depends on timing: an object solved too early was too easy, while one that survives too long was too obscure. That gives every creator a rare double objective—communicate clearly enough to be solved while resisting the first wave of guesses. The clay needs no artistic polish; suggestive shapes, careful questioning, and the social theater of interpreting everyone’s strange models are the heart of play.
