Alexander the Great recreates the Battle of Gaugamela, where Macedon’s smaller but disciplined army faced the vast Persian host. Two players maneuver units on a hex map, spend movement allowances, and resolve attacks through odds, dice, and a combat-results table. The armies begin with sharply different strengths and problems: Alexander must create a decisive opening, while Darius needs to use numbers and breadth without losing cohesion. It is a focused early Avalon Hill battle game with a historical situation that rewards timing and formation.
