War of the Ring is Games Workshop’s 2009 mass-battle system for The Lord of the Rings miniatures range, distinct from the Ares strategy board game of the same name. Two players build opposing armies from the profiles and organizations in its 328-page full-color hardcover, deploy formations on a terrain table, and maneuver by measurement and line of sight before resolving charges, shooting, magic, and close combat with dice. Standard and historical scenarios scale the Strategy Battle Game miniatures into sweeping engagements across Middle-earth.
