Read the full game description

The Game of 49 combines a simple four-in-a-row goal with open auctions and a deliberately tight cash economy. Every player begins with forty-nine dollars and fifteen chips. A number card identifies the board space currently for sale; players bid in turn until one bidder remains, then the winner pays the bank and places a chip on that number. Wild cards offer a choice within one of the board’s concentric regions, while Payoff cards return seven dollars per chip already placed, up to forty-nine dollars. That creates the central tension: early chips improve future income, but overspending can leave a player unable to contest the exact square that blocks an opponent. The first orthogonal or diagonal line of four wins immediately.
