Ruthless combines deck building with a poker-style contest for pirate notoriety. Every captain begins with coins and inexperienced Powder Monkeys, then spends each turn playing a pirate or set of matching pirates and buying one card from the market. Crew abilities can draw, attack, manipulate the offer, or trigger additional purchases, so the order in which a hand is played matters. Treasure can provide immediate money or join the growing deck, creating a tension between short-term buying power and future consistency. At the end of a round, the pirates in front of each player are evaluated as poker combinations, from pairs through stronger matched sets and runs, to determine the round’s reward. After the final round, rewards and card values decide which captain assembled the most notorious crew.
