Donnerschlag: Escape from Stalingrad is a two-player operational wargame about Operation Winter Storm in December 1942. The Axis player attempts to break through toward a secretly selected meeting point and connect with the trapped Sixth Army, while the Soviet player uses greater numbers and positional pressure to prevent relief. A mounted hex map, combat units, cards, and dice model a campaign in which each turn represents one or two days and each hex spans roughly four kilometres. The design emphasizes interaction and replayability over exhaustive simulation, making hidden intentions, tempo, and the timing of attacks central to the contest.
