Altered is a trading card game of expeditions and discovery rather than direct combat. Each player chooses a faction, brings a hero-led deck, and guides a hero expedition and a companion expedition toward one another along a shared region track. During the day, players alternate playing characters, landmarks, and spells, paying costs from a growing mana zone. At dusk, the expedition with the strongest matching region statistics advances, so committing the right mix of characters to each side matters more than simply building one overwhelming force. Many cards move into reserve after use and can be replayed with different costs or effects, giving each hand a second tactical life. The first player to reunite both expedition markers wins. The Beyond the Gates starter decks provide ready-to-play English factions, while the wider game adds deck construction, a digital collection system, and distinctive rarity variants for long-term customization.
